The Youngest Mother in History. Take a Guess

blogging | culture | family

I always wanted to be a mother and I love babies so much. They are adorable, cute, innocent and just lovable. Still, I always thought I will have babies after finishing the school and achieving parts of goals that I looked up to.

So when do you think is an ideal time for someone to be a mother? Or when do you think of yourself as a mother giving a birth to a baby?
Recently, I discovered that the youngest mother in the history was only 5 years and 7 months old when she gave a birth to a healthy boy. Peruvian girl Lina Melinda gave a birth to her son Gerardo by going through a caesarian section performed by three doctors.

Take a breath

Motion Mondays! | sharing

I know everyone is tired from the crazy Halloween and the parties they been enjoying. Like myself, I don't think anyone needs to read very serious articles or anything, no offense girls :)
So here are some websites to light your days up!
There interesting facts and laws will make you laugh and say is this true?

Something fortunate could turn out be to...

I went to shop at King of Prussia mall this afternoon. Today I did not spend much money, but usually I like to buy many things to award myself. After going to college, I do not really work nor earn good money, except working on Erdman. So, for me to shop and spend much money is not a good idea. So usually I think and wish for a big fortune that could help me not to worry about my allowance or spending, like college tuition.

The BIGGEST LIE that has ever been told

community | culture | emergence

Think about your family background and origin. Let's say you are the only one who does not "fit" in the family because of your skin color or hair. All the family members do "fit" but not you. When you are born with that, according to your mother and the doctors, it was because of a skin disease called melanism. You are the only balck person in the white family.

I was reading the newspaper article about a lie that had shattered one person's identity over twenty-six years. Dave Myers's story was rather captivating. The secret of a mother almost ruined and damaged her son's life. However, Dave made it thorugh and now he is very enthusiastic about sharing his story and discussing about the race.

Forgot your password?

technology

See, the thing is I thought I was having hard time memorizing my passwords (the ones that I created originally). But it happens to be there are many people who have been struggling and frustrated about their numerous passwords. This article from Information Week announced that more than half of the enterprise end users apply more than NINE passwords in order to gain access to Windows, specific applications, and Web portals. And this data was based on RSA Security survey.

Kitty Genovese, who is she?

community

Probably all Bryn Mawr psychologists and sociologists, also many more from "outside," might heard of Ms Catherine Genovese during 1960s. Generally, she is known as Kitty Genovese.

From my writing class, I got an artible about bystander syndrome also known as kitty genovese syndrome. Bystander Apathy.. This is what usually happens in a crime scene. However, a 28 yeras old New Yorker should not have murdered while "No one went outsie to help her. No one called police."

War brought more issues between two women

war and peace

Initially, the war on terrorism was engaged to defeat the terrorists and terrorism in the Middle East region. After the nation being suffered from the biggest and most malicious man-made attack in United States history, the U.S. government decided to go after the world's largest terrorist group in Middle East. So far, this war cost U.S. about 2000 American citizens and 100 to 2000 billion dollars.

I was not the only one experiencing computer problems...

blogging

Last night, I finished my homework and saved in my laptop, which I believed that it would be a safe place with no harms. But I was wrong. I went out to Merion Green to meet up with some of my friends and came back two hours later. When I came into my room, my monitor has a black screen and it said I had "media test failure and check the cable." Well, that point, I didn't think I have troubles; so I restarted my laptop to see what it does. This time, I got Windows loading screen, so I thought maybe my laptop did have any problems. There was just no way that it could be something really serious. But! I was wrong....again.

Oops.... My bad :(

Katrina Effects

Katrina

I know people got sick of hearing the blogs about Katrina. But also, I believe it really impacted our community. Whenever, people listen to the radio--doesn't matter which station it is--they will hear the donations and contributions made to Katrina victims.
Even Bryn Mawr Dining halls cancelled the Penny Candy Day, instead they will donate the money for Katrina victims.
I just found out all the free boxes in the dormitories are turning into the donations for Katrina victims, too!

Define Twinkie

I never realize my pseudonym would have a meaning of that. I was googling random stuff and got into Wikipedia about Twinkie! :) I had a good time laughing it off about that definition. So I thought some people might enjoy it, too. =]

Do yo know what Twinkie really means? other than a cake with creamy filling-of course.
If you do, then I think you will enjoy how twinkies are made.

Internet Witch-Hunting

community

WOI groups experienced some of the troubles or maybe conflicts during past weeks. So I remembered some newspaper articles about internet witch-hunting and one of the articles really made me feel everyone belong to the society called "web blogs"-whether they like it or not.

You are riding on the subway with your favorite dog, even though that's against the law to bring a pet into the subway. Meanwhile, your pet poops on the floor but this happened in such a short time and you are embrassed. People are yelling at you to clean the mess and some are even taking pictures or record the videos of you and your dog using cellular phones. What would you do?

More about the blog: Chapter 5

blogging

Chapter five explained the meaning of the blog and how the bloggings differ from the homepages.

The blog is more of writing. It provides the right and useful information to the audience or internet users. The blog is a committment. It takes a lot of efforts to blog everyday.

However, the homepages are little different. It's more about the close related family, pets or something. They will always include some friendly pictures and have 100 visitors probably for a year (or maybe not).

Since the internet is wide spread, blogging is a "power of distributed information" where anyone can share and develop some ideas upon it. The essays and personal opinions of free topic online will open a new way of discussion through the world.

The Controversy continues...

All of us, i mean the people in WOI classes, had to argue and discussed about the censorship and the freedom of speech in the class today.

Well, like Apathy mentioned this blog is "public." I don't very much enjoy reading about a person's private sexual life and so on. But there is nothing I can do to stop her from blogging her life and events, perhaps. I believe this blog should contain more than just one person's sex belief.

Some might want to express their civil rights and blah (the ones we learned in US Government and Civics in high school). But think about this way. The internet is all around the world; if people google the name "Bryn Mawr College" and see this website containing some uncensored materials, people could reproduce their own image of maybe the school or the students, us!

My 1st Testing =]

I feel so stupid because I spent almost half-hour trying to figure out how to leave a post up.
But, oh well... Finally I got them in my hands now =]
Like everyone in WOI, I'm so excited about this class.
It sounds really fun and interesting and hope it would stay that way :P
Seems like many of you already posted so many comments and I kinda feel overwhlemed but i think I can deal with this.
Before I run for my calcu class, I just wanted to say hello and see you tomorrow..
Next time, I will pick out a topic and stick with that. :P

The chocolate makes you more energy and make you awake even late at night or early in the morning, just like now. The hikers usually take lots and lots of chocolate or beef jerky that way it is easier for them to transfer more energy to their body in a short time. Like CurlyQ said, my friend also told me to eat a lot of chocolate when I am going thorough with PMS. The chocolate was actually used in medicine when it was first developed in form of liquid. It is also good snack to have late at night if there is nothing else to eat.. :)

Wait, do you mean.. you put PLASTIC water bottles in the microwave or an electric teakettle to get it washed...? I am little bit confused here.

It is understandable that megachurches are shutting down on Christmas, but I know where I will spend my Christmas at.... my church. Whether I like it or not, my whole family will actually go to the service on midnight or in the morning of Christmas to prove it is not a family day. So for my family and church, at least, it will be a religious day and I will appreciate that. :)

Apathy.. Very funny again :P
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-29 13:20
Well, you said you agree with her termination, and I agree with that, too. However, I don't think you understood my point. I would feel uncomfortable around my teacher, not because she is a sinner or because she had premarital sex. Put yourself in a position of a young Catholic girl attending a private school with strict rules and regulations. If the school did not fire the person, you would just think "oh so it is okay to have a baby before marriage." And I am not saying that is absolutely unacceptable, but she was educator. She might give the wrong impressions and ideas to the innocent girls and think it is OKAY to have a baby before marriage because their teacher has done so. I do have friends who were born before there parents were married or who have single mother, but I do not feel uncomfortable about that. What I am trying to say is when someone is in a position of educating many students in a school (especially private one); she should know how to take her responsibilities and actions. The point is she was employed by a private and religious institution which does not believed in the actions she took.
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-29 03:04
It is sad, but true. We read in newspaper articles and see people doing something very inhuman and illogical. It is not just about gun control. It is about people, it is about us. Why would the world becoming more selfish and turning cold?
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-29 02:58
I actually had a conversation about this with my mother. She told me that the money or fortune that one did not work hard on needs a lot of responsibilities. Winning the lottery and gaining a fortune will ruin and lose something more precious and serious than money. So it will need a great responsibility to think straight and not ended up in a jail or a barn killing him or her.
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-29 02:48
Yea, I am Catholic myself and I understand that Catholic school fired her for being pregnant without marriage. Well, it is a private school and religion is based on it..? If I was a student in the school, I would not feel comfortable about being around her. It might just be me, but I think the school had right to fired her from the school.

I love shopping.... This Black Friday, I spent 6-7 hours in King of Prussia mall (7:30am - 3:00pm). It was intense and crazy. I think I saw many people and friends that I knew from somewhere else. There were just tons of people and the parking lots were just full. I still think it is a good opportunity and a way to shop like crazy and not get blamed for. I could just say I shopped six hours because it was Black Friday and people will think that is reasonable. And it is not like Black Friday is once a week or something; it is only once a year and people just don't want to miss that time. :)
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-29 02:35
My classes are not intense as what you all posted up there already, but still I find it challenging.. :( Linear Algebra General Chemistry and Lab Poers of Cinema Intro to Anthropology I was thinking about shopping the classes, but these classes are back to back and only these fitted into my ideal schedule.. so there... I think I could manage the.... yea... :P
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-01 00:43
I cannot agree with you more...
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-01 00:41
I get your point. However, it does not mean East Coast is more liberal of underage drinking than where you came from. I spent my high school years in PA, actually very close from here. For my school dances, the breathalyzers were ready at the entrance just before one entered the ballroom or dance floor. I don't think it is East Coast thing, I would say "Welcome to College."
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-11-01 00:32
Yes, I did. My roomate and I picked out a wand in front of Taylor and we enjoyed our night with it! I actually took a picture with the wand (yes.. i looked crazy and you could see i was laughing so hard with the wand in my hand.) Still, it was a gorgeous night with hot cocoa and pretty lantern in red. Only two things were missing, they were the mascot of each dorm and songs of sorting hat. :D

Well, cardiovascular is the best way to be fit and develop a body image. Still like others suggested already, if you really despise running, swimming, aerobics, or jump roping will help you out! I am personally not big fan of running, even though I was on the track team back in the days :P I would suggest a combination of some cardiovascular exercises and some of the weight training for the best result.

I learned to handle myself pretty quick when I was baby. But, the diapers are all about part of raising or being a baby :D I think the babies should wear diapers. They do not know how to control until they started to develop what is wrong and right in early ages of 2-3. Also, diapers are what make them so adorable just like stereotype of baby with the diaper :)

Sorry, I really had to laugh out on your comment (not in bad way though) because I experienced EXACTLY same problems with my former laptop. However, it was not from DELL; it was from HP. Yes, my laptop was old, but I had to change the hardware two times in one week. I still have that one at home, it works okay for 5 years old computer (HP laptop has not died on me yet). One the other hand, my new laptop had a hardware problem and showed me the dying message of blue screen in the first week of school. This time, it was Toshiba! :D Hardware problems or any technical disasters are not limited to only one of kind computer company. :P Still, the technician told me that generally Toshiba and IBM have really great computers. Dell usually has many minor problems and sometimes bigger ones! XP

So far ONE credit card and ONE debit card... My first credit card bill was less than $100. If I ever exceed that amount, no one would be able to see me alive in BMC campus. :P Still, the truth about credit card... yes, it sounds right for the college students who use them for emergencies...
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-10-18 00:00
Yes! I heard those stories. Lots of my friends in other schools, especially national universities, told me the consequences of their actions. They get troubles for drinking, partying and many other activities that we get RESPECT for. Here in Bryn Mawr, each student can do anything that she wishes to unless it offends any one in the community. I truly respect our system and learned once again, BMC rocks! :D

I never cared about the little stickers, because I am just damn lazy to peel them. Instead of peeling of the sticker, I just peel the whole fruits off and eat it. I don't think the companies get more successful advertisement effects from putting tiny little stickers on the fruits, anyways.

It is good to know that I am not the only one majoring at Procrastination. ;P Many people do procrastinate, I am not going to say all of people do, because I know some people absolutely cannot procrastinate and if they do, they will freak out! I know it is a bad habit. However, if you put your work out for a minute, later you will have a minute to finish it anyways... right? :P
by Twinkie on Mon, 2005-10-17 10:38
That was funny joke. Though, I feel kind of bad for that famous person. Embarrassing! :P Still, those who think they are important and need not to wait or try to skip what everyone is going through should realize that money is not the answer!

Returned to the home for the fall break, I got this "you gained weights" looks and comments. Yes, I admitted because I know I did. Still, I could not help that I do not eat lots healthy foods in school and stay in my room to put comments and blogs for my CSEM class. :) I remember hearing some schools banning soda and snack machines to decrease the rate of children obesity. I support this idea of Create Your Weight Program. Children can easily fix their eating habits when they are younger. The parents should be more involved and understanding about healthy foods and healthy eating habits, so it could support their children in a long run. Like you said, they should make smarter choices to when it comes to eating. :D

The prom is the highlight and whole point of high school. Maybe, I exaggerated about the whole point of going high school part, but still it is a very big part of your high school life. It is once a life time experience and these 489 seniors will miss the precious memory that will linger in their hearts. The average cost of prom was $500. Yes, that is too much for a high school kid to spend on one night. However, who said you have to spend 500 hundred dollars for one night. There are ways to pay less and save money and still enjoy one of the greatest time in one's life.

Just overload of works and information! You must had hard time put them together ;) Personally, I do not feel comfortable calling another human being a "mutant." It just makes me feel weird and I think I will have different perspectives toward that person whether I realize it or not. I found some of the pictures of deformations were very disturbing and I had to close the internet windows immediately. Still, all the facts and the pictures above were based on true research and stories. Some of the stories of twins were just unexplainable. The story has the context of mystery but medical truth. Statistically, for me to meet the "people with different looks" would be very hard and rare; however, it is still agonizing to know that things that I would never understand or want happened and will happen anyways.

After getting into college, all I hear was Frosh 15. It kind of stuck and scared me, because I gained around 10 lbs even before coming to college. So, I decided to work out with one of my closest friends and cut back some of my foods and eat vitamins instead. We went to Eckerd's to ask which vitamin or supplement would be best, because I would still consume the healthy food so I would not starve myself. The pharmacist just recommended us to work out and eat small portion of healthy food, if we really wanted to lost weights. He said: our age does not need to take vitamins for health issues and just to live a healthy life. Vitamins could be helpful if one is really picky on foods, like me, but still I believe it is not essential for everyone.

I think you can say the earth is flat. It just depends on what each person think about it. I have seen a lot of maps and many people put the world's map or any other maps in a flat paper. However, for fact we all know earth is in a sphere shape by looking from the space. I just think it depends on how person looks at it. :)

I grew up getting spanked every single day! Back in the days, it sounds awkward, I was like everyone else (troublesome and little spoiled child who has just too much curiosity that just never ended.) However, I know for the fact that it was not abuse or it was not my parents did not love me enough. They believed that they needed the disciplinary such as spanking or other punishments so I would not make same mistakes or troubles again. I also believe the spanking is not abuse, unless the adults have psychological trouble hitting their own children, but I know the spanking would bring some disciplinary act toward children to behave well.

Sean Klitzner, he is quite entertaining. Since I live right "NEXT" to apathy, I get to see a lot of "stuff" that she does. I saw some of his videos and they were crazy. That guy has some talents! :)

Somehow something tells me that Mrs. Judith Myers was trying to protect herself from the blame. I do not think she lied to protect her son. If she tried to protect her son, she would try to help him when he was going through hard time at school, with his friends or even with his family members. Some of the lies can protect one for a short amount of time, but they should not risk it. In this case, everything worked out nice and peaceful. However, when truth was revealed, it is not always nice like that.

For a big time driver myself--before I came to BMC, I usually drive about 300miles per week--I know the gas prices are ridiculous. Also, from the media, I heard more and more people are looking forward to buy hybrid or disel cars. But, I personally do not believe that buying these cars will save people some money. First, they are so EXPENSIVE to start with. Secondly, when you see the research or people who use those kind of cars, it is clear that they do NOT save lots of lots of money! I am not a big enviromentalist, I would not be buying a very very expensive car to just save enviroment. For some of you, this may sound like I am a mean person, but hey, let's be realistic.

I did not know the color "pink" was more of boys' color than girls' in the past. Knowing this society thinks pink is defenitely for girls, especially for girly girls. However, I do find myself attracted to the guy wearing pink! :D Like pale pink, never hot pink, sweater or polo, I think it is a good way to impress the girls that they look more nice and gentle. So yey! for the boys who wear pink.

The media is one of the biggest source and advertisement for cosmetic/plastic surgeons. One of the famous TV shows, Nip and Tuck, cast three plastic surgeons and their life. Many women want to be pretty, attractive and gorgeous. And media knows that some are not satisfied with their body figures and outlook. That is why plastic surgeons or cosmetic surgeons become millionaires. The doctors do not inform the consequences of breast cancer or disorders to their patients. The surgeons get paid from the patients and patients would not want to hear negative side of cost that might happen to them. Another TV show, Swan was totally based on reforming a depressed woman to be a confident one with surgeries and strict diet. It's is the media that pushing people to get "reformation" in their life. But it is people's choice to choose how their life will be affected by the decision.

I apologize for incovience that Apathy is causing. She is just acting silly. We met Darlene in Pem West when there was a CREW meeting. And I assure you I never met a girl's mom or called her a housekeeper. I would not be mean or rude to people that I never met before. But we really adore the housekeepers in Pem West and also Pem East.
by Twinkie on Thu, 2005-09-29 12:37
You are such a bad roomate, Apathy :( Maybe I should get a new one.

Yea, it is not good to know that I was not only one who was getting sick; maybe it is the weather. hm... I am having some of the symptoms for like three days now. I cough and sneeze everyday. If you meet me in the hall after mid-night, I will sound so sick. :( So everyone have problems please drink a lot of warm tea and put on some layered clothes to stay healthy. :D
by Twinkie on Thu, 2005-09-29 11:42
Yea, I actually do not live in Pem West, but Pem East. But my roomate and I had an adventure in Pem West and we met Darlene! She was so sweet and nice. I guess in her view, we looked like we are lost in the building so she started the conversation with US. She was caring and warm. Pem West girls, your housekeeper is AWESOME! :)

Yes. Even though I try to tell people how much I like being Philadelphia, I know it is a depressing and dull city. But I cannot really contrast Philadelphia with any other cities, because I only have been to New York City, the place where no one sleeps (I've been to LA, San Francisco, and Seattle, but I was too young. I don't quite remember anything but nice weather :D). As as one of your blog said, people love Philadelphia despite its dark sides of it. And I do, TOO! So stop tearing Philli apart. Let the great city rest a little bit. :)

YEAH! I heard that too! It was like 8 in the morning today. I was like oh no, the jackhammer ppl again. But I don't think it could be jackhammering because it was not loud as it used to be. But I definetely know what you are talking about. :D
by Twinkie on Tue, 2005-09-27 00:41
Wow, I did not know so many of you think Philly was a dull and pale city. Come on, everyone. Philadelphia is among nation's ten largest cities and it is renowned for the historical facts. We know the American history started in Philadelphia. :) Philadelphia has many attractions if you give it a little break. I just cannot think of the lists right off my head but there are: China Town Philadlphia Orchestra/Concerts Reading Terminal Market City Hall Liberty Bell/Independence Hall Franklin Institute Philadelphia Museum of Arts Penn's Landing South Street and many more! Once you get used to it, you will have plenty of things to do and will love Philli in your heart ;)

by Twinkie on Mon, 2005-09-26 16:58
haha those "motion monday" suggestions you have up there are exactly same from my friends' conversation, especially with the gym equipments and the frosh jobs. The school should buy more equipments in the gym! Even my town's YMCA was better than that. Also, they could extend the time of gym and then school will be able to hire some more students(more jobs everyone! more jobs). That could take care of your suggestions #2 and #3. Let's make a petition for that. Any objections?
by Twinkie on Mon, 2005-09-26 13:55
I know they are putting hard work in the school and I do appreciate that, but not 7 in the morning to wake everyone up. Very funny, Apathy :D
by Twinkie on Mon, 2005-09-26 13:53
I am NOT a very morning person. As a matter a fact, I live in Pem East, so I hear a lot of people complaining about the construction in Dalton and out lovely blue bus noise. Fortunately, I live in the other side of construction and blue bus; so I don't hear any noises in six in the morning. Thank god. Still, the jackhammering and lawn mowers drove me crazy the other morning! I tried to sleep through it, but I could hear the sounds going into my ears. I don't remember how long it took them to jackhammer darn side walk and mow the freaking grass, but it really bothered me; especially my first class was 11:30 in the morning also consider that I went to bed at two or three!

I hope it is not store's reponsibility. People should have right to take any photos they want, but The store should not be getting into troubles because of some censorships. I mean the pictures the store produce should not be something illegal, though. Well. Now I think about it is very complicating thing. But I saw some cases in televsion, the store referenced their customers in police investigations. So my guess is probably there would be a limit what store can do about the photography censorship. Right..?
by Twinkie on Sun, 2005-09-25 23:23
It had been always that way, and it will stay that way unless people bacome more aware and change their aspects around. For my high school year, I remember writing a paper about the Patriot act and looking through the law suits about it. Some of the cases were "unfair" because most of the suspects were acussed due to their race and color. Remember when, right after 9/11, President Bushs's bodyguard was thrown off the plance because he was arabian? The Internment Camps during World War II happend because of some Japanese spies, not all the Japanese Americans. 9/11 happened because of some terrorists from Arabian region, not all the Muslim Americans. People need to try to be more open about their perspectives and distinguish that one does not represent whole community.

See the thing is, I easily get confused with the insurance stuffs(not only with health insurance, but many more). But I thought for the natural disaster, people cannot get reinbursement or anything back. I guess Katrina is a national thing, but how much the people would get? They lost their homes, family members, and EVERYTHING. No one can bring that back, but still high insurance premiums sore of confuses me...

Even though Bryn Mawr is all women's school and you might miss some of your guy friends around, I still love Bryn Mawr for what it is. Under tri-college system, you could easily go to Haverford or if you can spare little bit more of your time, you could also go to Swarthmore. I am making many guy friends in Haverford and Swarthmore and at same time I still study under women's college. My suggestion is go out and take advantage of tri-co. You just need to get up and put yourself in out lovely blue bus and you will be okay. I Promise!

For me, I cannot keep track of my diet. I am not a person that counts every calories of food I consume or eat healty for the sake of it. People tend to be busy when they work or study, so that's why the fast food came out in the market and it expanded through years now. I would like to eat fast food if I have to, but I know there would not be any benefits from it. Like the movie Supersize Me, it tried to warn people the dangerous side of fast food. However, people would not eat fast food for a whole month. Everyone will, at least, try to exercise and try to eat healty if possible. Well, for student who live in campus, we have such a nice dinning hall that supplies not only GREAT but fresh foods. So if any one needs to eat healty, try to go for salad bars or exercise in the gym.

Well, so far.. I haven't lost any cell phones. But I am very renowned, among my friends, for breaking cell phones. I broke three cell phones in past two years. Don't worry. All of the phones I broke were mine. But I know how people cannot live without them. Cellphone is a way to connect one person to a society and more. From previous experiences, it would be a pain in the butt to get all your numbers back from lost one. I hope you can get your cell phone back. If I see the exact phone that I saw from the board, I will report straight back to you. Good luck. :D

Actually, I worked on Tuesday, the Barbeque night, at Erdman. The first time, I realize that the BBQ in dinning hall had nothing to with grill or any form of fire... I was kinda dissapointed, because I was thinking about the big grill and all. I moved around little bit in this area, so maybe I did not think about any culutre shocks could be caused by the BBQ! :P

I know I should not say it's funny, but it is. You are having the problem with internet connection and all, when I struggle with my failed laptop. Well, good luck with your problem and I hope it works out for you soon. :D

WaWa and Hess usually have good gas prices. That's why I go there for gas if needed. Now, it's good to know that I am not going to use Exxon or Mobile anymore! :D Boycott!

Your opinion is very thoughtful and captivating. Yeah, I think the women or girls should be the "top dog." Very delightful article by the way :)
