sports

Three words: Bryn Mawr basketball!

It has been a over a month since our practices have started. Our games have began, and as of now we are 1-2 (1 win to Hollins, 2 losses to College of Notre Dame of Maryland a.ka. "CONDOM" & Muhlenberg).

We have 12 players on the team this year. The team roster, pictures, and schedule can be found HERE!

SNOWBOARDING CLUB!

community | sports

I am starting a Snowboarding Club! There are three types of people who may want to join the club:

1.) You are already fairly good at snowboarding and you want to go this ski season. You would like to meet other snowboarders and may want to help others learn to snowboard. You want to increase your skill level though peer support and practice.

2.) You sort of know how to snowboard but would like to increase your skill level through peer support and practice. You want to meet others who like snowboarding.

Are You Afraid?

It was a cold dark day before Rugby playoffs everything was going well when all of a sudden the entire Bryn Mawr Haverford team turned and ran screaming hysterically at one of their players. No they had not gone crazy, nor did they decide to rebel against one of their own, instead they were helping a teammate conquer one of the teammate's worst and most reasonable fears: 30 angry rugby players running at her at once.

How far will we go to conquer our fears?

Sania Mirza: Indian Hero, or Traitor of her Faith and Country?

culture | entertainment | gender | sports

Ever since the US Open in August and September of 2005, many in the tennis community, and not, have been keeping close tabs of the doings of an up-and-coming star by the name of Sania Mirza, a young woman from Hyderabad, India, who has been shooting up the rankings over the past few months. Sania, however, is not being recognized for her power shots and excellent on-court play, and sometimes not even for the fact that she was the first Indian woman to crack the top 40 in tennis or win a professional tournament. People from inside the tennis world and out have been criticizing her as traitor of the Muslim faith because of the clothes she wears on court, as they see this attire as being against her, and all Muslims, faith and beliefs.

Sports, A means to bring family together

Last night, Dale Jarret ended his two year slump at the wheel and won at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. The story covered in USA Today ourlined how even other top racers are proud of Jarret's effort throughout the past two years and sticking with it.

WNBA = Sellouts?

sports

As much as people think we live in a community that "supposedly" does not mess with gender rules anymore, sports fall into the hands of possbily one of the largest gender roles of all-time. Take the WNBA for example: it's exciting, women's basketball... right?? Since my real blog entry about this got lost in the mix of things (which I'm a little bitter about), this is the extremely abridged version of my post.

mainstream tennis

current events | sports

many of you on this blog probably have no passing interest in professional tennis, mens, womens or doubles. i, however, do, because of a long and strange series of events which i will not recount for you right now. but, i do think you should become aware of the fact that tennis, forever seen as the snobby sport and completely uninteresting or appealing to anyone not a member of the upper class, is trying to change this fact-- just in a completely wrong and insulting way.
