The Best Way to Drive Away Those Pesty Teenagers

current events

The dog whistle is a common item used by pet owners to draw their dogs to them. It is silent to the human ear but attract the attention of canines. Insect repellent candles and spray are unharmful to human beings but drive mosquitos and other annoying pests away from the area. Now, there’s the child whistle, combining both the genius powers of the dog whistle with the same intention as the insect repellent. Invented by Howard Stapleton, he puts to use the fact that children are capable of hearing a higher frequency than adults. Quite simply, that means there are noises that a child can hear that adults can’t. And that, would come in mighty handy.

Henceforth, the birth of the Mosquito, as the device is named. The high frequency whistle only affects people under the age of 20 and is completely silent to anyone over 30. And the uses are plenty. The teenagers who often hang drinking around outside stores or loiter around smoking and yelling on the street would be irritated by the pulsing sound and eventually leave the area. It has been tested once and the owner of the store believes that it would decrease the number of cases where teenagers come into the shop “fighting, stealing, and assaulting the staff.”

I saw the NBC news report on

I saw the NBC news report on this, and thought it was a really ingeneous idea. It's too bad that businesses have to resort to these sort of devices, but adolescents just don't know how to behave these days. Especially those skateboarders who have no respect for public property whatsoever. They are self-porclaimed vandals is what they really are.
I can't wait to see how the implementation of these devices works out down the line. My high school calculus teacher did an experiment with device similar to that. The younger students in the class could hear the noise way before the older kids. It was really strange. Our teacher of course couldn't hear it all. All in all, this is a really cool thing and I would love to put one in front of my house to keep all the neighborhood kids from riding thier bikes in front of it.

I can still hear

I can still hear high-pitched noises and I am 27, so if I walked into or by a store that had some high-pitch sound constantly ringing I would not bother shopping or even entering the store. Now if its only like a dog whistle to where you can turn it on and off and used merely to deter the "rowdy" individuals then I say use it. But if you use it to annoy every teen that stands out front of your store, or ageist someone you just don’t like then it because abuse and we need to find some way of monitoring those individuals that choose to use such a device.

To respond about “skateboarders” These kids are not hoodlums but are quite often really great kids that have no place to ride their boards. If you have a problem with kids being active and creative then there is something wrong with you not with those kids. How ever if they are vandalizing property its not because of there “skateboards” but merely a lack or parenting and “places” to skate.

Instead of using some sort of deterrent to rid the streets of rowdy teens, why not build a place for them to “go”? More and more often the reason kids are loitering is because there is no place for them to hang out with their friends and still feel independent. Often as we grow up we forget how hard it was for “us” to find a place where we can feel free an independent away from our parents. Teenagers need a place free of adults. So they can feel independent and grown up them self’s. Then maybe there would be no need for a “teen whistle”.

It’s all about mutual “respect”.

People are not animals.

I agree with Judge Hatchet in that it shouldn't take some device to keep teenagers (or anyone for that matter) in check. Where are the parents that are telling these kids not to loiter, and fight, and steal? Had it been for proper parenting in the first place, such a device wouldn't be needed. There's something about using a whistle on a human being, that seems so wrong... I guess it's because we're used to it only being used on animals. But... what happened to words? Besides, as with anything, these teens will most likely find away around the whistle. Someone always seems to find a way around everything.

Wow. That's kind of

Wow. That's kind of disturbing. We have resorted to treating adolescents as we would treat dogs, to keep them in line. But I can think of a few people who I'd like to use it on...

Wrong. Just wrong.

What if you're a mom with newly born twins? Wouldn't the noise affect them too? Possibly make them cry endlessly, with the mother left with no clue why they're crying? Don't think about only teenagers. This device also affects the younger children, even 1 month old babies.

Also, teenagers are not that stupid. They can find a way through everything. In this case, they'll just whip out their ipods or boombox and filter out the annoying noise. There's a way through everything.

Also, most shops that teens hang around employ teenagers. For example, my 18 year old son works at Starbucks down the street. How will he concentrate on his job if there is a constant ringing in his ear?

This device was purely made out of ageism. Pure ageism. Adults are just as capable to steal items as any other teenager. Maybe they even steal better than teens, given that they had more years of experience. Not all teens are bad, not all adults are good. But most importantly, not all bad people are teenagers.

Its Awesome and its about time

Teenagers are stupid creatures and like most adults I survived mine, less than 20% of a generation of teens will actually contribute anything worth while. Since its not legal to prune the gene pool, then i say dart them , tag them and release them and if you can not do that then drive them off. After bearing my share of the tax payer load for a 27 thousand square foot skate park i still get the dregs of the barrel lottering around the street in front of my house. And they are not all skate boarders. Heck I like the one that fall down alot. Some are punks smoking and also littering with thier fast food trash. These are the 17 - 20 olds that are not needed in the neighborhood and don't even live here - this device is for those jerks and i intend to implement one soon. If that doesn't work then maybe the microwave directional transmission might help! And when that fails maybe a crossbow ... I'm tired of calling the police 3 times a week for punks with no jobs and no future hanging around.
