Rent

A hit Broadway rock opera, an award winning director, and an amazing cast all adds up to one thing: one of the biggest movies of this fall: Rent.

After ten years in the making, the movie Rent is finally about to be released.

See what happens when a group of twenty some things try to survive in New York City with the issues of AIDS, death, and poverty plaguing their life.

The story was based of a classic Opera entitled La Boheme, but was adapted into a rock opera by Jonathan Larson. Larson unfortunately died before Rent’s off-Broadway release. He was unable to know the international success that his opus created. His family has written on the official blog of the movie about their approval of the movie. It is a heartfelt blog considering that this Opera was the last work that their son ever produced.

Rent was one of the longest running shows on Broadway and won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, four Tony Awards, three Drama Desk awards, and numerous other outstanding awards.

The movie premieres on November 11 in New York and Las Angeles and November 23 world wide. An amazing cast that includes all but one member of the entire original Broadway cast, Rent the movie has been predicted to blow away moviegoers. A musical that defined a generation of the 1990s is finally released in 2005, ready to inspire a new generation and bring back the haunting memories that were brought about in the 1990s.

Want to hear the music; it is all on the official website of Rent under the Launch Music Player link.

i can not wait

Ok being one who is more then OBSESSED with rent, i personally can not wait for rent to come out. I mean I am kind of nervous though becuase movies have tended some time to mess up great broadway shows. I mean some movies like chicago were great and stayed very true to the broadway show. I just hope that rent will be awesome.

Rent=Amazing

When I saw the show, I had been up all night before and I was so tired. But the music was so energetic and powerful, the sets and lighting were creative and the show was simply amazing. I got the chance to go backstage and see the walls where guests leave messages and sign their names. I know people who have seen Rent over 20 times. I'm glad the movie is coming out so people who haven't been able to see the musical can share in the experience.

I LOVE RENT!

i've seen rent three times and i'm seeing it again during the winter break. i love it so much, i listen to the soundtrack everyday before i go to sleep.

What's the BIG hype with RENT?

Hate me for it, but I don’t like Rent. I think it’s so pointless. I’ve seen the Broadway performance, meet the actors, and still I am not in love with it. The whole time during the show I sat there going… “Ok, this is crazy, and not really funny, just flashy.” I personally don’t understand the hype… I have tried, but I really don’t see it. Maybe I’m just not a Rent person, because other Broadway plays I LOVE! And for the most part I’ve have seen I would say about 85% of them. There are so many more stronger plays out there on Broadway; Rent just never cut it for me.

*I still completely respect everyone else who loves Rent… which is everyone else, except me. = )
