Some Halloween Fun

entertainment | Wacky Weekends

Now before you all jump on this post for being about Wacky Weekends but written on a Wednesday, hear me out.

Remember MTV's show, Fear? I remember when that was on television, I believe I was still in middle school. I never actually watched it, because I was too scared and thought it was pointless unless I was actually there. But that is all about to change! I'm sure all of you have seen the Terror Behind The Walls ads not only on the Bryn Mawr website, but also in local stores. If you don't know what Terror Behind the Walls is all about, take a look at the site. It's music and photos really make it appealing.

The Eastern State Penitentiary opened in 1829 as part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through "confinement in solitude with labor," Eastern State Penitentiary quickly became one of the most expensive and most copied buildings in the young United States. It is estimated that more than 300 prisons worldwide are based on the Penitentiary's wagon-wheel, or "radial" floor plan.

Some of America's most notorious criminals were held in the Penitentiary's vaulted, sky-lit cells, including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone. After 142 years of consecutive use, Eastern State Penitentiary was completely abandoned in 1971, and now stands, a lost world of crumbling cell blocks and empty guard towers.

For Halloween 2005, the ESP has been transformed into a massive haunted house with several events including: the Experiment, the Intake, Maximum Security, and 13 other rooms in which surprises lurk around each corner. Everyone that enjoys being scared should definately experience Terror Behind the Walls in the next couple weekends. It is only running until Halloween night.

The webiste also boasts about actual ghost sightings within the prison. I apparently live with a ghost (and she is very nice) so I'm interested in learning what all the fuss is about.

Quite a Fright

2 years ago, a group of my friends and I went to the Terror Behind the Walls. I'm usually not really into horror movies and such, so I was a little tentative about going to this haunted prison. It was definitely one of the scariest experiences of my life. I was screaming the most out of everybody around me. I woke up the next morning without a voice. That's probably why all the "inmates" and "ghosts" were chasing after me. They all go after the easy targets. So if you aren't looking to be chased by the demons, I would suggest keeping as calm as possible. Even though I was really scared, after the tour was over I still wanted more. It was so much fun. I would definitely do it again.
